One of the most awaited new features of the next update for Final Fatasy XIV, which will arrive between the end of June and the beginning of July, is the addition of the flight in the regions of the original game (Thanalan, The Black Shroud, La Noscea, Coerthas Centrale). Indeed, the flight was added in the Heavensward extension, which makes it accessible in all the regions of this extension and of the two following ones.
But to unlock the flight function in each region, there are two complete steps: finding all the thren winds on the map and performing several defined quests. The first question that arises is therefore whether players will have to spend several hours unlocking everything to be able to take advantage of the new flight function in these regions.
In the live content announcement, Square Enix made it clear that there was only need to have completed the last quest of the pope A Realm Reborn
Flying Chocobo
Then, new players will not be able to unlock the flight with their first mount, even if their first chocobo is already on. They will no longer need to do the quest "Fly, handsome bird", but you will have to complete the quest "The last pass of arms" (level 50) with the dungeon of the Praetorium to unlock it
After having started Heavensward on the other hand, the player will obtain the flight function more quickly, since there will no longer be any need to obtain the black Ishgard chocobo, having already obtained a garlic chocobo with the Great Company mission. Currently optional, although highly recommended, the quest will become mandatory to start the Heavensward pope.
Finally, Square Enix has not yet detailed the work done to make the flight accessible in the new regions: will it be possible to discover new places that were previously inaccessible? Will we be able to fly above everything, including certain tunnels and rivers or will access be limited? These responses will be given later.
