It’s easier to get your money back in the Epic Store. In theory you are only two clicks away from a refund – but of course there are a few restrictions. We explain the new rules to you.
This is how the new Epic refund system works
When do I get a refund? Similar to Steam, you can apply for a full refund for games that you bought in the last 14 days and played for a maximum of 2 hours. Your claim will expire if you are banned from the game for violating the rules. Epic also reserves the right to reject refunds, if users take advantage of this opportunity
»The game I just bought ended up in the sale!« This is annoying, of course, but don’t worry: Epic grants you a discount if you buy a game and it becomes part of a discount campaign shortly afterwards. The amount repaid corresponds to the difference between the original and the reduced price.
What about pre-orders? If you no longer like a pre-order, you can unsubscribe at any time – but only as long as the game has not yet been released. After publication, the normal refund rules apply. Attention: “Release” in this case also includes the release of early access or alpha versions.
How do I apply for a refund? You can find the complete instructions in the Epic developer update. We have created a small step-by-step guide:
- First of all, of course, you have to be logged into your Epic account.
- You will find the »Account« tab under your user name, there you can see your transactions on the left.
- Find the game title you want to be refunded, click on it and select “Refund”.
- If all the requirements for a refund are met, you will get your money back directly.
Note that you have the repayment about the payment method chosen when purchasing will be refunded – for example to your PayPal account. Depending on the payment method, it may take some time before the money arrives at you.
As a result, Epic continues to work on establishing itself more with players and developers:
