The trademark entry “Xbox Series XS” suggests a new console from Microsoft. The next-gen lineup could get reinforcements.
On December 29, 2020, Microsoft filed the trademark rights for the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) with the US Patent Office Xbox Series XS at. The Xbox Series product family could therefore be expanded with a new console. However, the trademark rights are currently being checked.
It is pretty clear that there is a console behind the trademark entry. In the product description on the USPTO page states: “The XBOX-SERIES XS ™ registration is intended to cover the categories of equipment and instruments for recording, transmitting, reproducing or processing sound, images or data; recorded and downloadable media, computer software, blank digital or analog recording and storage media; Computers and computer peripheral devices; pre-recorded video game programs; downloadable video game software. ” With the same description
One can only speculate about the Xbox Series XS itself at the moment. The name XS could indicate a slim Series X model. However, it is also possible that this is not a new console at all. Whether Microsoft will ultimately only secure the brand name or actually plan a new Xbox is still in the stars despite the examination of the trademark law. But one thing is clear: an absolute name chaos with a Series XS – next to the Series X and the Series S – seems inevitable.
