Good budget smartphone with that certain something

The Redmi Note 9T is a good budget smartphone that stands out from the crowd of 200-euro cell phones thanks to its 5G support. If you are looking for a low-cost entry into the new age of mobile communications, you will not go wrong with the purchase. Only the long charging time of the battery is annoying.

We liked that

  • 5G
  • long battery life
  • microSD card and second SIM card can be inserted

We didn’t like that

  • no ultra wide angle camera
  • Battery charges slowly

current news

The 5G expansion is progressing in Germany ahead, in many cell phone contracts the new cell phone standard is already included at no extra charge. But you still had to dig deep into your pocket for the appropriate end devices. That’s over now. Xiaomi brings with the Redmi Note 9T a more than cheap 5G cell phone in the trade. You can currently get it for the special price of only 200 dollars.

But should you strike? Let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T together.

Design and processing

The design language of the Redmi Note 9T follows that of the higher-priced Mi models. Xiaomi uses a punch-hole display here. So the front camera is housed in a small hole in the left corner of the screen and no longer in a teardrop-shaped notch.

The camera module on the back is slightly oval and is surrounded by a decorative ring, this arrangement reminds us of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite. An inconspicuous lettering on the lower edge indicates that the mobile phone supports 5G. From our point of view, the feature could have been emphasized more prominently, but Xiaomi apparently likes it more subtle.

Despite the width of 77.3 millimeters, the Redmi Note 9T is still comfortable to hold and can be easily grasped. The on / off switch, including the fingerprint sensor, and the volume rocker on the right-hand side are well placed and can be easily reached with the thumb. At 199 grams, the Redmi Note 9T is not a flyweight and with its 6.53-inch display it is anything but small, but it can be conveniently stowed in your pocket without being bulky.

In the hand, the Redmi Note 9T does not look very high quality, which of course has to do with the plastic back. This has a slight pattern on our test device. However, this does not provide more grip in the hand. Due to the slightly protruding camera, the mobile phone doesn’t slip off the table that easily.

While the back is only made of plastic, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, a high-quality screen protector, is used on the front. The Redmi Note 9T is available in two colors: black and purple. Xiaomi refers to these as “Nightfall Black” (black) and “Daybreak Lila” (purple).

Furnishing

So much for the looks of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T. Let’s take a look at the built-in technology below. Of course, the 6.53-inch screen first catches the eye.

Display

The screen has a full HD + resolution and is accordingly sharp enough. According to our taste, it could be a bit lighter, and the colors don’t look particularly vivid. In return, the screen offers large viewing angles. All in all, the content can be read as easily as possible in everyday life.

Processor and memory

The MediaTek Dimensity 800U chip acts as the processor in the Redmi Note 9T. The octa-core achieves clock frequencies of up to 2.4 gigahertz and ensures very good performance. In the relevant benchmarks, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T is almost at the same level as the 200 dollars more expensive OnePlus North. Nothing stands in the way of action-packed mobile games such as PUBG with full graphics.

Geekbench (Single-Core) Geekbench (Multi-Core) AnTuTu
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T 598 points 1,785 points 306,352 points
OnePlus North 610 points 1,900 points 333,158 points
AnTuTu and Geekbench are popular tools for measuring the performance of your own smartphone. Both apps not only check the performance of the processor (CPU), but also other components such as the graphics unit or the RAM. The higher the score, the better the result.

Further equipment

In addition to a microSD card, you can also insert a second SIM card into the mobile phone. Incidentally, both SIM cards can then radio in the 5G network. Also a NFC-Chip for the Pay with your mobile phone is available. Likewise, a headphone connection in the classic 3.5 millimeter jack format. In terms of equipment, we don’t miss anything in the Redmi Note 9T.

By the way, the operating system is Android 10, but with the new MIUI 12 user interface. How the chances of a Android 11-Update stand is unclear.

battery pack

Thanks to the built-in 5,000 mAh battery, the Redmi Note 9T does not go out of light so quickly. Depending on the intensity of use, runtimes of 2 days and more are possible with one battery charge. However, the battery charges very slowly. You have to allow several hours for a full charge. Incidentally, it cannot be charged wirelessly.

Camera

For photo and video recordings, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T offers a 13-megapixel selfie camera and three camera lenses on the back, but only the 48-megapixel main camera is really relevant. The other two lenses are assistance cameras with a resolution of 2 megapixels, which are only used in certain shooting situations (portrait, macro).

The creative possibilities for you as a photographer are therefore limited. For example, an ultra-wide angle, which is now almost standard, is missing. On the other hand, the camera delivers surprisingly good results for the price range, even in difficult lighting conditions. In the gallery you can get an impression of the image quality of the Redmi Note 9T.

scope of delivery

There are positive things to report in terms of delivery, unlike the Xiaomi Mi 11 The manufacturer does not waive the addition of a power supply. You will also find a protective cover in the box.
