Because of the sheer amount of hype that creates the startup, the praise of the universe from critics, or perhaps the full time as everyone is forced to stay inside – or, in fact, all of the above – Crossing the Animals: New Horizons have a good implementation.
We'll get our hands on the official stats from Nintendo on May 7th, but pulling together the sales data we've seen so far is a pretty good picture of the new franchise's entry. As of last week, the game has already sold over three million copies in Japan alone (that's just one country, and doesn't include digital sales). That was enough Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
New Bloomberg article, Famitsu head of research Mitsunobu Uwatoko and Morningstar Research analyst Kazunori Ito provided ideas on the success of the game. Both quotes can be found below:
Mitsunobu Uwatoko: "No other games have such huge sales volume, and it is clear that the organization is gaining a lot of new fans as a result of the global war against the coronavirus. Nintendo would have sold more switch units if they had enough inventory."
Kazunori Ito: "The game is good for people today, because it can spend endless hours in a warm and gentle world. I've never seen so many people share so many screenshots of one game on social networking sites."
The rigidity of the game has impacted on hardware hardware shortages in the UK recently, and similar stock issues are also found in Japan. As touched by Uwatoko above, it is possible that many consoles and copies of the game would have been sold had it not been for distribution problems.
