In the Nintendo Direct that took place on February 17, a news related to one of the most anticipated events of the year by the igamesnews was confirmed. We are effectively talking about The Legend of Zelda’s 35th Birthday.
In the presentation, Nintendo revealed some of the plans he has for this important celebration, which go through a new release that will delight fans of the franchise: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. But not only that, since some Special Joy-Con inspired by said franchise. Both will launch on July 16th.
As is customary in these cases, the news did not satisfy everyone. Many players who already played the title in their day were not convinced to go through the box again, since it is still a high definition port with just a few novelties. On the other hand, many others were excited by the idea of finally being able to enjoy this installment in HD, either reliving the adventure or discovering it for the first time. However, what is clear is that many wonder what this 35th anniversary of Zelda will bring us
Well then, Jeff Grubb, a VentureBeat reporter and industry insider (who has revealed games like Plants vs. Zombies for Switch ahead of schedule), has posted a Article in which he states that Nintendo to reveal more about its Zelda celebrations once Skyward Sword is revealed.
According to the journalist, it all comes down to marketingAs Nintendo doesn’t want to overlap Mario’s 35th Anniversary celebrations right now (ending March 31, 2021), and focusing “solely” on Skyward Sword through July will ensure sales and attention. In this way they ensure that the 2011 installment for Wii is not overshadowed by other Zelda games.
We leave you an extract of the shared message:
The first consideration when it comes to the timing of a Zelda anniversary is Mario. Nintendo’s 35th anniversary celebration of Super Mario is still underway. It’s unlikely Nintendo wants the Zelda and Mario celebrations to overlap. I would get more of each if I put some separation between both events.
This is still marketing. And Nintendo will want to position The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD ahead. This is one of the main reasons why Nintendo didn’t talk about other Zeldas beyond Skyward Sword HD at their latest Video Direct event. The company doesn’t want other Zelda games to distract from its attempts to retrieve Skyward Sword.
Sure it could have released Wind Waker and Twilight Princess at the same time, but the company wants Zelda fans to focus on Skyward Sword. So instead of creating a situation where other Zelda releases on Switch cannibalize sales that could have gone to Skyward Sword, Nintendo will create a constant cadence of releases to celebrate the series. That will start with Skyward Sword HD in July, but we should have news of what’s to come soon after this summer.
On the other hand, the journalist specialized in games Imran Khan has responded to a tweet from Jeff Grubb on said article, stating that it is normal not to want to tell fans that there is a Twilight Princess and Wind Waker double pack for $ 60, when they are also trying to sell Skyward Sword HD at that price:
You probably don’t want to tell people there’s a TP/Wind Waker double-pack for $60 when you’re also trying to sell a $60 version of Skyward Sword.
There’s a reason 3D World came out in February despite being just entirely on the eShop for months.

Grubb: My take is that around E3, he will reveal the rest of his plans for Zelda. And then he will treat Skyward Sword HD as the first step in a celebration leading up to BOTW2, and you can join in on the fun for the low price of just $ 60.

Finally, we remind you that Zelda: Skyward Sword HD already became the best-selling game of the moment on Amazon last week and, in fact, exhausted its reservations on Amazon due to its great demand. Therefore, everything seems to indicate that the game will sell quite well.
Be that as it may, there is nothing officially confirmed at the moment, so as always we recommend not ringing the bells on the fly and taking this data as a rumor. We have no choice but to wait to see what Zelda’s 35th anniversary will finally bring us.
What do you think?
