In October 2019, AlphaDream filed for bankruptcy after a poor sale of the 3DS title Mario & Luigi: Bowser & # 39; s Inside Story + Bowser Jr. & # 39; s Journey at the beginning of the year. It raised many questions about the future of the Mario and Luigi series, which began life during the Game Boy Advance generation.
If you're worried about the status of the series after it happened last year, good news Nintendo hasn't forgotten about it. According to LetsGoDigital, earlier this week on January 9th (and just three months after the AlphaDream crackdown), American Nintendo filed a trademark in Argentina for Mario & Luigi.
Description of the Nintendo Mario and Luigi trademarks: Computer game cartridges; game memory cards; computer software; video game memory cards; interactive software for playing video games; telephone cover.
As explained in the description above, the trademark includes video game software and phones. LetsGoDigital goes on to speculate on how this could be in preparation for future entries in the series and may end up on Nintendo Switch or mobile devices, but not sure if it could be an entirely new title or some other subtraction.
For now, however, we should not be taken too seriously, as this may not be the case with Nintendo protecting its old IP.
