Nintendo seems to be replacing its multiplayer server system after almost two decades using it – iGamesNews

Some of you may know NEX like the multiplayer server system used by Nintendo in recent years. Well, it seems that now, after almost two decades with it, the company is considering a change.

Apparently he’s investigating a new system called NPLN using Monster Hunter Rise. This has been known because this is the first title that uses it at least publicly.

Nintendo is preparing a big multiplayer overhaul, probably for games in development in 2020: every task currently taken by NEX is going to be switched over to NPLN. It’s currently in a preview phase, and the Monster Hunter demo was a way to test how it worked under load.

This would be a good option to replace NEX, currently something outdated. However, experts in the field of datamine suggest that this new system would not provide better online experiences but rather as a basis to continue experimenting and improving their services for the future.
