Random: The NSO Icon On The Switch Home Menu Is Driving Some Users Crazy

NSO Icon - Nintendo Life

Perhaps the biggest part of today’s firmware update is the addition of the Nintendo Switch Online hub – which allows subscribers to access all of the online services in one place. As noted in the update patch notes, an NSO icon has also been added to the Switch’s Home Menu, and well…not everyone seems to be happy with it.

A quick search over on social media reveals a number of users who are annoyed about the fact it doesn’t blend in with the rest of the user interface, like…at all. Here are just some of the many reactions:

I am unreasonably upset that the Nintendo Switch Online icon on the Home screen is not consistent with the rest of the icons. pic.twitter.com/80UrFIISbnβ€” Naveed (@Naveed_Mohebbi) December 1, 2020

This looks so forced and unnecessary. pic.twitter.com/BLlJVIs3Zeβ€” πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ’–JuneπŸ’–πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ (@Cibles_) December 1, 2020

I dislike how hard the NSO icon stands out pic.twitter.com/sQMc7WLgBsβ€” Scratch. (@Scrxtchy) December 1, 2020

i hate this NSO icon, its basically an advertisemen, the application serves no purpose pic.twitter.com/wBrZKVOpy2– RNG (@ RNGTime64) December 1, 2020

THE NSO ICON IS SO OUT OF PLACE #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/SNiBXmOaSgβ€” Desi @ Ring Fit!!! (@symbolscramble) December 1, 2020

Not a fan of how that NSO icon stands out, but everyone else is also complaining about that. #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/gueToLmGTgβ€” Radio Free Caemlyn (@RadioFreCaemlyn) December 1, 2020

The new NSO portal is pretty clean and well-organized but I kinda resent Nintendo for putting a bright red button next to all the minimal grey icons on my screen. pic.twitter.com/3xG44QopCEβ€” PLDH βš”οΈπŸ›‘οΈ (@PLDHnet) December 1, 2020

i love the idea, it’s a great addition and i thank you for that. but the icon on the home screen for NSO stands out so much compared to the other icons beside it, it looks out of place. I personally think one of these would fit in better but it might just be me so i dunno pic.twitter.com/ZkPBECDKk2– puppy β˜… (@pupsiirox) December 1, 2020

We’re sure Nintendo has a good reason for making the NSO icon stand out from the rest, and if we were to take a guess – perhaps it could be because it is the system’s paid online service.

What do you think of this new icon? Is it bugging you as much as the Switch users above? Do you even care about what the Switch Home Menu looks like or are you more about the actual games you can play on Nintendo’s hybrid system? Share your own thoughts down below.
