As you well know, some players still consider today Nintendo as a children's brand that creates games for children. However, we must bear in mind that in the past this feeling was even greater and a greater number of followers believed in it.
Recently we have learned that, from Nintendo itself, they thought about how they could reverse that trend. In a recent encounter with the Current Value podcast, Reggie Fils-Aime
Share that from the company they were studying how could they change the logo to look like a more avant-garde and adult company. However, Reggie opposed this movement stating that it was going in the wrong direction.
We leave you with his words:
From the point of view of the brand, we had to be clear about what Nintendo represented as a brand, as well as what individual franchises represented. I will give you an example.
When I joined Nintendo, there was a sense of almost shame that Nintendo attracted young consumers, and the Nintendo of America marketing team started doing things with the logo, the classic Nintendo logo on an oval, they would put it on graffiti style, or they did different things to try to make the logo look more adult, and I stopped it because that's not our brand. And what we had to do was yes, attract a large sample of consumers, but we had to do it based on what the brand represented and not do it in some false way.
Systemically, we review and clean the presentation of the brand, but we also create messages along with content that really expanded the reach, widened the appeal and set the stage for all the excellent products we would launch as Wii, such as Wii Fit and now Nintendo Switch.
What do you think?
