In the same discussion as the Japanese book Nikkei, when Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa talked about cloud games and how he thought there was more time for video game hardware, he also explored how the company "is constantly adopting new technology.
He took the opportunity to explain how Nintendo was constantly researching and improving itself – and didn't want the public to think the company was turning away from new technology. In fact, both company and software development teams are testing new types of tech all the time. It's more than just deciding whether to use the game.
Thank you again Oni_Dino from Nintendo All by providing translations:
What I do not want the public to misunderstand is that we are not abandoning new technology – we are constantly researching and developing. Our Hardware development teams are exploring all kinds of new technologies available so far and interacting with our software developers. If they see that the technology can be used in a game, they will use it. We cannot change this basic path forward.
Another technology Nintendo has faced in the past is an uncomfortable fact. For example, a 3DS is built-in AR Games software that can be enjoyed with AR cards provided with the program. In a similar response, Furukawa said that Nintendo was definitely not done with it:
As for AR, it is certainly one of the many features we have a passion for. We are currently investigating what fun alternatives we can use.
Nintendo is often faced with many mistakes for being slow to use new technology, but at the same time, it is always paving the way within the video game industry. What do you think? Would you like to see Nintendo adopt a new technology sooner rather than later? Tell us below.
