Gematsu recently had the opportunity to chat with the director of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, Hikaru Nakano. At the meeting, the creative has shared interesting statements on various topics related to the game and the franchise in general.
In the first place, when you have been asked about the future plans and if he thinks to change the formula of the game, Nakano has assured that he wants to keep the series “true to itself.” However, he adds that “if we talk about developments outside the central identity, there are certainly many possibilities.”
They have also asked if other games like Stardew Valley affected the development of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, and the creative has pointed to another example that did influence the development: the Rune Factory series as “a way to show the player’s skills and the method through which the player unlocks new craft recipes ».
Another prominent topic that he has commented on in the interview is the same-sex marriage. When asked if this possibility will become a fixture in the series, the director had this to say:
Giving players the freedom to marry whomever they want is important for a game like Story of Seasons. I think it should be included in these games, so the development team and I intend to continue implementing same-sex marriage in future titles. There is a precedent in Japan for calling it ‘Best Friend Ceremony’, but it may change in the future.
What do you think? If you are interested, you can find some more topics (in English) in the full interview.
