Yoshitaka Amano, the well-known illustrator and designer of the Final Fantasy series, has starred in a short documentary-style video in which he quickly tells us what life is like for an illustrator of one of the most important video game series in the world.
The creative talks about how his experience as an artist has been, which he claims has not changed even when he was a child. He still enjoys the creative process even though he still wonders what he is going to draw every time he looks at his blank sheet; But you feel rewarded when people appreciate your work.
Amano started his career from the age of 14, when visiting a friend in Tokyo he took the opportunity to take his drawings to the Tatsunoko Pro animation studio, where he received a job offer. He joined the production team as an animator doing the original series for the company, and even had the opportunity to create his own new characters. From here his drawings were used as a reference by other animators, but Amano wanted people to enjoy his art directly, so he decided to become an illustrator.
He claims Amano started by drawing fantasy book covers and was inspired by the fantastic stories of the West. It was then that he received an offer from Sakaguchi-San of Square, who was looking for someone who could draw a fantasy universe. That was how he started his career in the Final Fantasy series, which became the benchmark for a video game from then on.
