Game of Thrones was leaving a fan base across the globe (despite criticism of its final season). And there were many and many who fell in love with a series of such good quality: from the cast of actors, special effects, storylines and the image, everything in Game of Thrones pointed to a series to success.
Like any series, Game of Thrones ended after 8 seasons that began airing in 2011. However, after almost two years since the show’s last episode aired, Game of Thrones is returning as a prequel.
Obviously, it will not be the same, it will be different stories. However, thanks to these prequels, we will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in this world of castles and dragons with which we have fallen in love.
HBO has undoubtedly benefited from the success of Game of Thrones. We understand that his intention is to press him to the maximum, against which we have nothing to object (obviously, we can criticize when we see the new series).
For now, two Game of Thrones prequels have been confirmed: House of the Dragon (in Spanish) and The Tales of Dunk & Egg.
Game of Thrones first prequel: House of the Dragon
The House of the Dragon or, the House of the Dragon, will focus exclusively on the Targaryen family. The good news about this highly anticipated prequel is that HBO Max has confirmed that It will be released in 2022.
So yes, there is still at least a year left, but at least the news is official.
We’ve already said that it will focus on the Targaryen family, but what will the plot be based on? The story will tell us about the conflict between two members of the Targaryen family: Hightower and Aegon II and Rhaenrya Targaryen.
A portion of the actors and actresses who will appear in the series have also been confirmed. For example, Daemon Targaryen will be hosted by Matt Smith and Olivia Cook will play Alicent Hightower.
Game of Thrones second prequel: The Tales of Dunk & Egg
This prequel will be an adaptation of the novel of the same name by George RR Martin. It is a trilogy of novels shorter than the previous ones which finished being published in 2010.
The story will take us back to the Game of Thrones universe, but this time it will be 90 years earlier. We will meet Ser Duncan, an extraordinary knight and King Aegon V.
These novels have a more humorous and fun tone than A Song of Ice and Fire, so we’re still not convinced if it will work as well as the above or not.
At this time, HBO hasn’t given much details on this prequel as it’s still at a very early stage of development.
Where can I see the Game of Thrones prequels?
Both Game of Thrones prequels can be seen on the HBO Max platform. At the moment, the platform is not available in Europe, but it should be in the middle of this year.
This means that when the new Game of Thrones series lands on the platform, it will already be available in Europe.
In the meantime, you might want to know how to download content from HBO Max and watch it offline. You might also want to know how to watch HBO Max from Europe or Latin America.
