Unless Windows 10 was released in 2015, it has received continuous streaming ever since.
Microsoft is adding new features to it software twice a year, as well as monthly security patches and occasional bug fixes. With the final update in November 2019, a new version is expected, and the company has confirmed it is ready to be released.
With Windows Insider Program members configured to test software theoretically, many new features have already been revealed to some extent. Here's all you need to know about the Windows 10 May 2020 update, known as 20H1.
When will the release of Windows 10 update be released?
Given the name, we can almost guarantee that the update will be available sometime in May 2020.
Windows 10 update is now in line with the monthly security update schedule, which is released on what's known as "Patch Tuesday."
This usually refers to the Tuesday of each month, which means May 12 will be a strong release date. However, Windows Latest reports that this will be delayed, finding bugs possible with the latest version of software.
Microsoft will make sure the matter is pre-submitted to consumers, meaning that May 28 is a possible release date. The company has not confirmed the release date at any time, so this is only a estimate.
What devices will Windows 10 update be available for?
If your PC or laptop already has Windows 10, chances of a May update will be available to you.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed this, but states on its website that "Windows 10 is built to provide device health updates."
The company can usually announce the end of device support before the big release, so we don't expect that consensus will change compared to the November 2019 update.
What new update will we see in the Windows 10 update?
The 20H1 update will be modest by Microsoft standards, but a few important updates are still planned for the user experience.
Cortana Review
It lags behind Google and Alexa assistants in recent years, and Microsoft has confirmed that Cortana is no longer competing to become the best virtual assistant.
With that in mind, it was removed from the original menu in the update in May 2019. However, Cortana remains an integral part of the Windows 10 experience, and the May 2020 update will offer its services in a separate app.
However, as Microsoft reported in the official blog post, Cortana will gain a lot of wisdom. Other notable improvements include integration with Microsoft applications and a clear emphasis on productivity.
Cortana can still tell a joke or respond to gossip using Bing, but its most useful features will appear via Calendar, To-Do, and Microsoft Office applications.
As was the case with the mobile app, Cortana will also undergo many transformations. You will be able to type commands in addition to using your voice, while the window can be moved to the screen to match your navigation.
File Explorer Updated
File Explorer has also been included in a timely update, but that's not expected to update in May. Instead, we will have some notable changes. The corners of the windows are round and the search function improved.
There have been many releases over the past few months, which Microsoft will try to fix to make the user experience more understandable.
Switch to mode tablet
With Microsoft's Surface line leading the way in terms of 2-1, 1 laptops, it's understandable that Windows 10 continues to fly its tablet mode.
The refresh will make it uninterrupted, no longer asking you to switch to the tablet as soon as you unplug the keyboard. Instead, it will provide a much more visible touch experience, with more tailored thumbnails and a simpler touch version of File Explorer.
PowerToys return
This is one of the Windows fans at the Olympics. Power Toys are last seen on Windows 95, and allow users to take their work with a series of tools and keyboard shortcuts.
Among them is the ability to rename files and image size in a combination, as well as the number of additional keyboard shortcuts. If used properly, they can be a great time saver.
Big changes in upcoming updates
Although not expected in the May update, some major cosmetic changes seem to be coming to Windows 10 soon.
The startup menu has been redesigned to make it look smaller and more modern. Live tiles are cleaned, while the design of the applications is fine-tuned to the way they are used.
This is a part of the app that has received little attention since the release of Windows 10 in 2015, so it's a welcome update.
In addition, Microsoft has introduced new icons for its most popular applications. Office Apps, Outlook and Computers all have a fresh and clean look. It was important for Microsoft to change the look and feel of Windows 10 without losing its identity.
A number of other upgrades under the hood are expected to ensure that the next version of Windows 10 is more stable. A series of errors over the past few months means that Microsoft has a point to prove, and many people trust it software more than ever.
