Adult Swim is teasing a secret YouTube video that premieres on April 1st at midnight, and if history suggests it, it could be Rick and Morty connected.
The network sent email referring to a Youtube video This is currently set to private, but should go live at midnight. While there is no way of knowing what this video could be, Adult Swim premiered an episode of Rick and Morty As an April Fool’s surprise in the past and with a new season coming up, this seems like a possibility.
Of course, anyone who has spent some time on the internet knows that April Fool’s Day joke is notorious for internet pranks – some of which are pretty poorly designed. Adults swim, however, is notorious for its April 1st gags from 2004
But what is probably the most interesting Rick and Morty Fans are that before the third season of the show, in 2017, Adult Swim debuted the first episode of the season as a special surprise and kept it on air until the end of the day. During the day, the surprise episode was seen by over 11 million people, according to Adult Swim. The remainder of the season then aired four months later from July 30th.
With that in mind, there is certainly no question that Adult Swim could do the same with the season 5 premiere this year. Thanks to the trailer that was dropped on Tuesday, we know that season five will debut on June 20th – this is a pretty similar time to the 2017 surprise release. For Adult Swim, it wouldn’t be a huge challenge just one episode early to drop to excite the fans.
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that this is actually related Rick and Morty at all. As of 2017, only two of the network’s April Fool’s jokes are related Rick and Morty.
When Polygon reached out, Cartoon Network declined to comment on what exactly the Adult Swim is YouTube link was for. So this is your fair warning, if you tune in to the video, it could be Rick and Morty,
To update: Unfortunately, Adult Swim has not released a new episode of Rick and Morty. Instead, the network’s April Fool’s joke this year is that it temporarily turns into a joke Adult swim junior, a children’s network with a baby version of all your current and former favorite Adult Swim characters.
The trailer for Adult Swim Junior includes a show called The venture nephews, with a Baby Brock and Baby Rusty venture, as well as brief character insights The boondocks, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Coast to coast spirit of space.
Of course, no adult swim joke would be complete without an appearance from everyone’s favorite crazy scientist and grandson named his own short film Rick and Morty Babies.
