We love the dark Crystal atmosphere. Starting with the original film, that of 1982, it deserves far more love than it had historically given. Jim Henson's waterfalls have become fashionable and thanks to Netflix's animated series, both for the good looks and the impressive. And in this high-level context, the official video game, created by the BonusXP studio, appeared suddenly in the middle of E3. Since its launch it was clear that it was not an AAA project, but many indie ones are shining with no money and we were hoping that the magic of the license would drive it all. But what we found does not go into the shoe's shadow.
It is a very simple concept to understand and learn, but apparently simplicity is his fault. When everything is simple, simple and straightforward, you run the risk of being bored, whether you are a licensed lover or an IP of the day. So screens pass, in succession, without high points, deep moments or something to be excited about. He's playful, fun and that's it.
The drawings are bad too. It's between the standard mobile game and the low inventions made a decade or so ago, all covered by a dull layer of pastel tones trying to emulate the effect of a television image. It doesn't make you beautiful but it is the opposite. He doesn't even find his characters polygonacos or its terrestrial phenomena reach that sense of life and realities of the Dark Crystal. Since it's not conducive to sound, only certain sounds in the speech bubbles, it's impossible to enter this space we were so eager to visit again.
The plot follows or just eliminates the story behind the Netflix series, but without much of the power we found on television. Because they tell you faster, skip parts again in a lower tone. So it doesn't work as a substitute or as a match. It is true that those who have seen The Age of Resistance will get it right, but that will not be taken lightly as it is obvious that there will be a good portion of players who misunderstand what is going on. Oh, and no introduction to find out.
I hope it can be worse: not that it goes very well either. Every time you try to go through menus to manage troops or to install new movements or weapons or anything, it is as if time stands still. There is a delay between each option and its on-screen execution which, in the game of the backup plan used, is executed. The loading times between duels can last up to 20 seconds, and since the equipment is very short, we are talking about more waiting times. If they do not surrender, we will lose these promises.
The most compelling thing about Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance – Tactics is not the speed or the little justice they do to the Fenson Franchise. No, even more frustrating is the fact that it transcends a certain sense of apathy in the workplace, as if someone has done something waiting for someone to buy it by name only. It's 20 euros, and it's not much, but it's not worth it. If it had been a free mobile gaming with some kind of monetization the second time it would have happened, but we're talking about console and premium PRO.
In short, only if you love Jop Henson's creations, and need to have all the products from their respective locations, this video game is a must. If you ever want something productive where you can spend your time, preferably not, because it's a strategy game without interest, poor and without emotions, which is the opposite of what Dark Crystal is all about.
