CD Projekt Red has been criticized for making some marketing decisions Cyberpunk 2077, like using a hyper-sexualized trans model in a billboard. The company has also received serious scrutiny of its labor practices, particularly with regard to “crunch,” a common practice in the gaming industry that refers to long hours of overtime of weeks or months.
In May 2019 CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński announced Kotaku that he wanted the company to be “more humane” and that this included the application of a “non-mandatory crunch policy”. However, in January 2020, CD Project Red imposed a mandatory crisis on some employees, and at this point in time Cyberpunk 2077 was postponed from April to September. The game was later postponed to November and finally December – and the developers crunched the whole time.
Cyberpunk 2077 promises to be a huge game.
