This week, Marvel is finally giving the god of mischief the lead he so richly deserves – or at least that he thinks he does. But if you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki’s is from Loki may not feel that familiar.
That’s because he’s not the same Loki who died at Thanos’ hands Avengers: Infinity War, or ran around Sakaar with Thor and the Hulk THOR: Ragnarok, or even the same Loki fought the dark elves in Thor: The dark world.
When the series was announced in 2019, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige said the studios Loki would pick up in immediately Avengers: Endgamewhen the Avengers returned in time to attend the Battle of New York and Loki accidentally got his hands on the Tesseract – which he promptly used to flee somewhere.
And that means the Loki is on Disney Plus is the film from a film that came out almost a decade ago.
“It’s really interesting the evolution of the character of The dark world, Ragnarok, and Infinity war
But with the Time Variance Authority involved, it’s possible that Loki’s entire timeline could come back into play as the Asgardians cruise through history. So, just so we can all have our Lokis lined up (keys), let’s do a quick recap of the best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Loki’s first appearance is the antagonist of his brother’s film debut. In the film, he found out that he wasn’t an Asgardian at all, but an adopted Frost Giant, and devised a scheme to invite a Frost Giant invasion into Asgard while Odin was incapacitated and Thor exiled so he could defeat his biological father in order to obtain the consent of his adoptive father. It didn’t work, and when his plan was revealed he chose to fall off the Bifrost and get lost in the cosmos instead of facing justice.
Define Loki moment: Tom Hiddleston’s instantly captivating performance catapulted Loki to villain status “Oops, we made him too likeable” just in time for him to be megalomaniac on his next gig.
Somewhere in the cosmos, Loki met a servant of Thanos, who offered him an army and the power of an Infinity Stone (the Mind Stone) to penetrate the earth and conquer another Infinity Stone (the Tesseract).
Loki managed to use the Tesseract to open a portal in space-time for Chitauri invaders to flock to the Manhattan skies, but the army and Loki’s plan were halted by the Avengers, who united in retaliation for the late Phil Coulson, murdered Loki. In the timeline set in the main continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki’s conquest ends here – at the end of avenger, SHIELD is handcuffing him away.

Odin chooses this moment to die, which unleashes Thor and Loki’s very scary older sister Hela from a decades-long captivity and begins the movie’s plot in an appropriate manner.
Hela banishes them both to the planet Sakaar, where Loki works for the tyrannical Grand Master, but eventually helps Thor and the Hulk escape Sakaar. The group evacuates Asgard before the population is destroyed in the Ragnarok apocalypse. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
That brings us to Avengers: Infinity Warwhen Thanos finally comes for all Infinity Stones. At this point, Loki was still hanging out with Thor and the Asgardian refugees when Thanos showed up, confiscated the Tesseract, and apparently executed Loki forever.
But that’s all the water that has yet to flow under the bridge for Disney Plus. Loki. The character we’ll see on screen is more alive, younger, more evil, and has a lot less experience under his belt.
