Jujutsu Kaisen, The manga behind one of the most popular anime series of 2020 is on hiatus due to creator Gege Akutami’s health. According to a statement in Weekly Shonen Jump No. 29 and confirmed by the Shonen Jump Twitter Account is expected to resume the series in a month.
“We wish Gege Akutami a relaxing break and look forward to the next chapter,” Shonen Jump shared on Twitter, along with a handwritten note from the creator himself.
From the Weekly Shonen Jump No. 29 (released June 21), “Jujutsu Kaisen” is suspended for a while due to Mr. Akutami’s poor physical condition.
We’d love if you could see Professor Akutami’s handwritten comments too.

The break doesn’t come as a big surprise. More recently, the manga’s latest chapter was running with unfinished panels, signaling to some fans that Akutami may be planning a hiatus. Still, the cause of the manga creator’s illness is unclear, as the automated English translation of the Japanese Shonen Jump tweet quotes “poor physical condition”.
In her statement, as translated from unofficial accountsAkutami said it was “not a serious illness” and that her “mental health is perfectly fine, so don’t worry.”
Though Akutami may resign, Jujutsu Kaisen remains immensely popular. In March, Studio MAPPA announced the first full-length film based on the series.
