The headquarters of the old Nintendo card game is turned into a hotel. Visitors can stay in the Kyoto building from 2021.
The building, dating from the first half of the 20th century, was the main office of the Marufuku Nintendo Card Co, founded by Fusajiro Yamauchi in 1889. We will continue to be the Nintendo we know today. (19th century the headquarters, however, were demolished into a parking lot.)
This building has become a popular travel destination a place with Nintendo fans. Starting next year, you can do more than stand out from it and take selfies. You can stay in the old HQ. Existing building will be upgraded, and there are plans to add 20 guest rooms as well as a restaurant, bar and gym. Recently, there has been a trend in Japan to replace old buildings, such as fortifications, for hotels to cash in on a tour of the country boom.
However, the old headquarters is not in Nintendo's hands, but rather the Yamauchi family. Hopefully, the hotel will feature some kind of museum with old Nintendo-related family heirs so guests can get a deeper sense of where they are staying.
Sadly, Nintendo's Hiroshi Yamauchi once had a love hotel.
