This past spring, electronic art canceled the popular planned outbreak Star Wars: Wars series – third star Wars A game the publisher has been using since 2017. This is the latest game, courtesy of the code The Viking, originally thought it should be released in 2020 and the next generation of consoles. But when it became clear to EA executives that the timeline was unrealistic, The Viking it was gone.
This account is based on interviews with six people familiar with EA's internal operations, all of whom spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak to a reporter about canceled projects.
The backstory of The Viking
That second game, Orca, it was all upgraded in 2018 until it was also canceled by EA. Kotaku broke the news by OrcaCancellation last year. At the time, we reported that EA Vancouver was distributing less star Wars project to replace it – one scheduled to be released in 2020 alongside the next PlayStation and Xbox. Electronic arts executives like to call it a financial hole that needs to be filled.
This third match was called The Viking, and was designed as a spinoff of Star Wars: Wars series with open world features. The plan was also for EA to present another live-action studio – Criterion, based in London, England, best known for racing games such as Burnout and The Need for Speed but in recent years it has grown into many varieties.
EA Vancouver has spent some time designing ideas and prototypes for The Viking, and Craption came inside shortly. It was then that problems began. Although Caption was, on paper, a leading studio, the challenges of planning for transnational development made that difficult. As one participant in the game said, "too many chefs" were on the cusp of it. Criterion lead had an ambitious idea about the game, aiming to set focusing too much on story and characters
That quickly became clear The Viking it would not be completed in one and a half years, and EA executives had no interest in extending the timeline. The Viking canceled in the first part of By 2019, though these issues have not been reported yet. That's it fall by 2020 a financial hole go excluded.
Criterion now restored The Need for Speed series, and EA Vancouver supports other EA channels such as BioWare and Respawn in similar games Song 2.0 and Apex mythology. (EA Vancouver is also active in many company games.)
In May of 2013, Electronic Arts signed a one-on-one agreement with Disney for "core" video games – in other words, consoles and PCs – resulting in chaos, it's really disappointing for a decade because star Wars games.
Today, EA has two innovations star Wars games in development – next The Jedi Fallen Order Respawn with a small, unusual EA Motive project in Montreal, Canada.
