On Friday over 151,000 players (and let’s be honest, probably a couple of bots too) have all played Team Fortress 2 at the same time. This marks the first time in the game’s history that so many concurrent users have been playing TF2 since the game launched in 2007.
Based on Statistics found on SteamDB
Of course, if you know something about it Team Fortress 2, you might already be pointing out that most of them are bots. Valve and TF‘s player base has fought bots for a long time and tried to play the game in spite of them all. But over on that officially TF2 subreddit, many pointed out that only a few thousand of these players are most likely bots. That’s because of recent updates from Valve trying to reduce the bot population. Valve’s efforts weren’t foolproof, you can easily find servers filled with bots, but many players have seen a drop in bots since the update.
The reason for the sudden increase seems to be due to the fact that many players are after the Update from June 24th
