More than a year ago, Supermassive Games, already released by Sony and with an excellent introductory book by De Dawn, launched its own anthology The Dark Pictures, a collection of terrifying independent stories such as the theme and its improved electoral system.
In the first of them, the Man of Medan, we followed five characters during a boat trip where they encountered a dark story of ghost ships. Shorter than De Dawn and some of the characters that focus on team play, it had its good points, but also a series of technical distractions that polluted the experience.
Although it was originally planned for this summer, the release of the next story, Little Hope, could not arrive on time. Always feel better in fear in the months of October and November.
This time we moved from the Pacific Ocean to Man of Medan into the woods of the northeastern United States, where the first English settlers arrived to establish themselves by following their strong religious movement. Since then, the popular concept has always been remembered for the witchcraft experiment in the town of Salem, where residents were accused in court of witchcraft and many people were sentenced to death. In a little hope the same thing happened and it was followed by different times, it connects us to it in the 17th century, in the 70s and today
Another great character of Little Hope, and with a significant weight of accountability, is the fog around the city environment at all times. Here they were able to focus the disagreement on what we did not see and only on intuit. The fog prevents the main characters from escaping and forces them to inevitably develop. The descriptive shadows and part of the amazing sound made us take every step with our hearts with our fists. Cold sweat ran down our backs and the memory of that first moment on Silent Hill came to mind again and again.
We do not want to be overly concerned about talking too much about the subject, but it is enough to say that it is controversial and, as is often the case in these articles, is not always clear and we should always consider how our actions and choices, as small as they are, will affect future events. This is possible for example a system of personality traits of characters. How they decide to continue in this situation or how they work together can make decisions in the most advanced stage, or decide the end of the character mentioned later. To come to the right conclusion, you have to explore the situation you want all the secrets to, which will help us build a hidden history in the city of Little Hope and how it interacts with the main characters. We will also receive more postcards, which, as we have seen with the totals in Until Dawn, make us a small beacon that shows the future, and based on it we can pay attention to or look at, or avoid.
Management continues in the same sense as in previous articles, where we usually control the character in a certain category and explore for clues that allow us to improve. The narrative of this story sometimes leads us to suddenly go to Quick Time Events events, now, which gives a second warning before you know which button to press. Also, as the first part of the anthology, re-control the air by pressing buttons according to the heartbeat. As new to this installment, content markers have been added to items that can be used (for example, knowing if a track opens a door or simply grabs an item).
But in general, what we will do most at Little Hope is to enjoy the experience as if it were a horror movie. The number of views or “cameras” has been expanded to Immersion and cinematic language are enormous
One of the things fans most questioned when The Dark Pictures Anthology was announced was to turn the game into a social experience and here they have added more collaborative players to our area (Movie Night mode, with up to 5 actors) and play online as a couple. If we are left wanting to finish it or just want to find another ending to the story, retaliation is also guaranteed by Curator’s Cut, where we can follow the characters we were once unable to control in certain sections and that we can now, even find many clues to unravel the story.
Aside from its benefits and development than the Man of Medan, there are a few dark spots in this Little Hope. The color palette of most games is at a very high level and it seems that if you are not near a light source the game looks gray and unattractive like the Pacific in the Man of Medan or the Canadian cabinet in till Dawn.
Although the Day 1 clip has already been announced to deal with local language and lip biting bugs, there is still a sharp escalation of the dots involved. Even at one point the incident froze for a few seconds, though fortunately it was timely. However, it is shocking that this type of technical problem continues to drag on from the previous installment, without criticism and the supposed development and polishing of technology in the subject.
In short, Little Hope continues the new way of opening Man of Medan with a little playful difference and a powerful story to tell, It’s very popular with the team, so it’s a good bet to enjoy the Halloween home stay, since it’s set for next October 30th.
