XCOM: Chimera Squad was released last year in April exclusively for PC. The turn-based tactical strategy game is a sequel to the extremely well-received XCOM 2: War of The Chosen, which also released on consoles. XCOM: Chimera Squad currently resides on PC only, but that may change soon.
XCOM: Chimera Squad was announced and launched in less than two weeks; a very interesting marketing strategy from developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games. The XCOM series is beloved by many, however there are those who would enjoy being able to play XCOM: Chimera Squ ad on consoles if it were released beyond the PC.
According to a ranking list on Pan European Game Information (PEGI), XCOM: Chimera Squad has recently been revised for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This would be extremely exciting news for fans of the franchise who have not been able to play the game because it has been stuck on PC since April 2020. The Nintendo Switch rating is interesting as XCOM 2 came to Switch in 2020, three years later. the release of the other versions of the game.
Along with the games PEGI is reviewing, a release date was set for March 26, 2021, which of course has already passed. The fact that an incorrect date is indicated here gives a reason to pause the validity of the information, but it is more likely that a placeholder date will be entered that completely incorrect game consoles were added to the site. With that in mind, it would be wise to go over some tips from XCOM: Chimera Squad before the game hits consoles if that happens.
On a slightly sour note, the PEGI list doesn’t mention next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. While gamers will likely be able to play XCOM: Chimera Squad through backward compatibility on these consoles, it’s a shame the title still doesn’t seem to be compatible with the true next-gen.
Another cool thing to note about the XCOM: Chimera Squad review is that a mobile review is not on the list. XCOM 2 also made its way to mobile devices, so it could be assumed that the series would continue to place its flag on iOS or Android. But as far as this information from PEGI goes, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
It is important to note that this information is not confirmed. When it comes to leaks or rumors, a rating board finding may be more concrete than other types of leaks, however nothing is confirmed until official. Therefore, the idea of XCOM: Chimera Squad coming to consoles should not be considered real until Firaxis Games or 2K Games post a trailer, tweet, press release, etc.
XCOM: Chimera Squad is available for PC and may be coming to Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
