An exploit allows hackers to gain access to Genshin Impact accounts and trick developer MiHoYo into allowing them to keep them.

The Boss December 9, 2020 No Comments

Despite the growing popularity of Genshin Impact, it is clear that there are still many things that the game needs to improve, especially its security system. Recently, several Genshin Impact players reported that their accounts were taken over by hackers. It’s worth noting that while the game itself is free to play, some players spend large amounts of money on the game to get the characters they want, increasing the overall value of their accounts.

In a Reddit post by user Rabbit Outside, they revealed miHoYo’s response after reporting their hacked account. While the usual approach for a hacked account is to return it to its original owner, miHoYo claimed that the Rabbit Outside account could not be returned because the hacker purchased “Refills” for the account. This means that a hacker can easily steal a Genshin Impact account and keep it as long as they buy something cheap from the game, like a Welkin’s Blessing of the Moon for $ 5.

It’s worth noting that the authenticity of this Reddit post remains a mystery. Many gamers were suspicious of the video, since anything can be faked on the Internet. The user also reported that their support ticket was closed immediately after the post got attention. In the end, fortunately the player was able to request a chargeback. Still, they revealed that getting their account back is no longer a priority, given that they have lost interest in Genshin Impact, whose mobile version made $ 400 million in a span of two months.

Developer miHoYo has yet to comment on the issue, but assuming it’s true, this could become a major concern for players who are spending real-life money on the game. It’s worth noting that since the game’s launch, a number of players have spent incredible amounts of money on Genshin Impact, such as YouTuber Mtashed, who spent $ 2,000 to expose the gacha game odds. For now, players are advised to make sure to protect their accounts from online hackers, especially those who have invested countless hours and amounts of money on Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact is available for mobile devices, PC and PS4 and is currently in development for Nintendo Switch.
