Fogurai was originally designed for the Game Boy themed game jam in 2014. A great inspiration for theaters to study videogame mascots from the '90s, the game was born with the simple idea of dog fighting robots.
At first we weren't sure we wanted to end the game, so we gave it up for two years. After taking it to a local indie game event, and, and seeing a positive response, we decided that Dogurai would be our first commercial release.
One of the biggest challenges that has been our lack of experience. We already had some familiarity with the game jam, but the difference between flipping something fast and ending the game, having multiple stages, a mechanic and a boss fight is great!
The process of development was very exciting. Each stage is made and summarized at times, as we thought and adjusted each character's identity and feel, as well as adjusting the average difficulty level of the game. We wanted it to be a little challenging, but definitely not impossible, and taking the game to many home meetings and letting a lot of people play is key.
- From motorcycle rides to great volcanic eruptions, the game has eight different stages, each with its own set of challenges.
- Busfights are unique and challenging. There is no boss like no other!
- Crispy pixel art and catchy melodies, all wrapped in solid local action.
- Dogs. Swords. Robots.
Developing Dogurai was a blast, and I'm proud of the end result! Just hope you enjoy our game too!
