Hitman 3’s cinematic opening has been revealed, hinting at Agent 47’s plans for Providence’s secret, villainous organization.
A month before its release, IO Interactive has revealed the opening cinematic sequence for Hitman 3. The game marks the end of IO’s World of Assassination trilogy that began in 2016.
The short video doesn’t reveal much new information, but it does give fans a taste of Agent 47’s upcoming adventure. The video shows Agent 47 and Lucas Gray traveling through the deserts and cities of Saudi Arabia. Gray narrates the sequence, providing clues as to what the game’s story will bring us. It appears that the couple will visit various places in Saudi Arabia, including vast deserts, remote villages, and the sprawling metropolis of Dubai. The sequence concludes with the couple jumping out of a plane over the city.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the trailer is what Gray has to say about Providence’s secret organization. “For him, we were only active, to use and throw away, to do the unthinkable, the unforgivable. And he never gave us a second thought, until now, ”he says, adding that he and Agent 47 have learned the names of the three Providence leaders. “In his downfall, we let the past rest,” he continues, which means Hitman 3 will see Agent 47 hunt down members of Providence’s leadership.
Providence has played a major role in IO’s Hitman trilogy. The secret cabal rules the world from the shadows and has been responsible for various heists and crimes, as well as creating Agent 47 and Gray using the DNA of a legendary KGB Agent. It seems fitting that the trilogy’s conclusion has Agent 47 going head-to-head with his creators and former employers.
For gamers who might not remember, Gray, formerly known as Subject 6, grew up with Agent 47 in a secret Providence facility in Romania. Both were test subjects in Providence’s program to create obedient assassins who would kill without remorse. During childhood, Gray and Agent 47 escaped the facility together, but were later captured. Agent 47’s memory was erased, while Gray was thought to have been killed. In Hitman 2, Agent 47 meets with Gray, who helps the assassin regain some of his memory and turns him against Providence. It will be interesting to see what Hitman 3 has in store for the two characters both in terms of story and gameplay.
Following the release of Hitman 3, IO will shift its focus to developing the next 007 title. While Hitman is certainly unique to James Bond, IO’s Hitman trilogy featured heavy spy themes that many fans enjoyed, which reaffirms that IO was a great choice to develop the next 007 game.
Hitman 3 will be released on Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on January 20, 2021.
