Bluepoint Games used virtual rubber ducks to test Demon’s Souls

The Boss December 3, 2020 No Comments

A Bluepoint Games staff member revealed a particular way to test the performance of their latest work, the remake of Demon’s Souls. According to Colin Harris, a technical artist at Bluepoint, the team used virtual rubber ducks to put them in various places in the gloomy world of Boletaria.

Harris commented to GamesRadar that all those playful aids were removed when the game was released, but the ducklings had a significant impact on the construction of the new Demon’s Souls.

The artist commented that a friend of his who was interning at the company made the design for the rubber duck. Harris found it in a resource folder and found it a great use for testing the game.

“They turned out to be the perfect model for testing due to their size and shape. It didn’t hurt a little juxtaposition to see a yellow rubber duck in an incredibly detailed dark environment “

Harris stated.

The ducklings were erased from the code for fear that they would appear by accident in the final version. Harris 3D-printed replicas of the cute models and gifted them to each member of the team.

Demon’s Souls is available exclusively for PlayStation 5.
