The launch of the PlayStation VR It marked Sony’s foray into the virtual reality industry. The reception of the device was very positive, to the point of becoming one of the best-selling VR glasses on the market. However, the company’s commitment to this technology will not end with the arrival of the PS5. In fact, they hinted that your console next-gen will receive a new PlayStation VR in the future.
In an interview with the Japanese portal AV Watch
However, from the previous year rumors arose about a possible successor to the PlayStation VR in the next generation. Are there possibilities? From the words of the aforementioned manager, we can intuit that it’s a matter of time to see a new model fully optimized for the PS5: “I would hope that the PS5 offers a suitable virtual reality experience for the console. I cannot comment more, but I am looking forward to it.”
Patents and demos
Reports from 2019 anticipated that Sony was developing a new PlayStation VR alongside the PS5. In October of that year, the portal Let’s Go Digital discovered a patent that could be the first look at the device. The first big news, according to the illustrations in the document, is that it would be wireless thanks to the Bluetooth connection, thus matching the options of the competition.
And if the previous track was not enough, last May Sony showed a demo of a technology that can be perfectly integrated with virtual reality. It was developed by Kazuyuki Arimatsu and Hideki Mori, both engineers at Sony Interactive Entertainment, and relies on artificial intelligence and proximity sensors to identify the movements of your hands and fingers. The precision is incredible, as you can see for yourself in the video below. Thus, everything indicates that the PlayStation VR 2 will be another attraction of the PS5 in the coming years.
