There is no doubt that The Last of Us is one of the biggest names in the world of video games. In fact, the franchise is going through a great time. The sequel released in 2020 became a success and there will be a television series about the saga. But it seems that this is not all. According to a Bloomberg report, Sony is preparing a ‘remake’ of the first The Last of Us
According to renowned journalist Jason Schreier, this project began to be developed in secret by a team led by Michael Mumbauer, but was eventually handed over to Naughty Dog, creators of the original title. The original development team was disbanded.
The report argues that the decision to create a ‘remake’ of this title, which already had a remastering for PS4 that can also be played on PS5, is due to Sony’s obsession with ‘blockbuster’ titles. They say this has negatively affected the smaller teams that are part of Sony Worldwide Studios.
This move is surely also due to the fact that they want to take advantage of the extra interest in the saga that the long-awaited HBO series will generate.
The same report tells that Bend Studios proposed to create Days Gone 2, but the project was not approved. Although the zombie game was profitable, it did not get the reception they expected from critics.
Sony has not officially confirmed the ‘remake’ of The Last of Us for PS5 and we don’t know a possible release date yet.
