During the different presentations of E3 2021 -including those of Xbox, PC Gaming Show, Return Digital Y Freedom Games– we were able to see more than a hundred independent games or ‘indie’, as we like to call them.
Most of them were quite interesting, but the sheer amount we saw can be overwhelming and quickly make us forget about them. That is why we have compiled the ‘indie’ games that most caught our attention during E3 2021.
Somerville is an independent game from the studio Jumpship that was inspired by the alien apocalypses of film and literature. We will see it in 2022 for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
Monomi Park surprised us with Slime Rancher 2, the sequel to his popular title “harvest slimes.” It will be released in 2022 for Xbox Series X / S and on Game Pass.
The Ascent is an eye-catching isometric shooter RPG with a ‘cyberpunk’ setting. It will arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PC – all with access from Game Pass – starting July 29, 2021.
The protagonist of Replaced It will be an artificial intelligence trapped in the body of a human being and we will be able to play this title from Sad Cat Studios and Coatsink in 2022. It will arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC.
Trek to Yomi It will be a colorful 2D samurai game with monochrome graphics. It is from the same creators of Shadow Warrior 3. It will be released in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC
Wizard with a Gun is a multiplayer survival game in an open world. It will arrive in 2022 on Nintendo Switch and PC.
Among the independent games that Devolver Digital announced at its E3 2021 presentation, the card game stood out Inscryption. It is from the same creator of Pony Island Y The Hex.
GigaBash it will be a fun ‘party game’ of fights in which we will control several giant monsters – ‘kaiju’, for those who know – and giant robots. We will see it on PS4 and PC.
An interesting concept is that of Lemnis Gate. It is a “turn-based” third-person shooter with a high component of strategy. Can’t you imagine how that works? Think about Worms, but ‘hardcore’. Each character will have an amount of time to move and perform actions before it is his opponent’s turn. It will arrive on August 3 on PC, but will have a beta the month before.
Pixelated Milk, creadores de Warsaw, they present us an RPG in the style of the classics of Japan. SacriFire is a game that is very reminiscent of memorable SNES titles, but with a three-dimensional twist to its settings. Your Kickstarter funding campaign will begin soon.
One of the most intriguing indie games of E3 2021’s ‘Indie Showcase’ was hands down Fallen Aces. This is a first person shooter game with graphics in the style of ‘comics noir’. In fact he introduces himself as “Doom Noir.”
We couldn’t stop mentioning Dark Deity, because this strategy RPG caught our attention with a style of game traced back to the first Fire Emblem. It was one of the ‘indie’ games we saw at the Freedom Games presentation at E3 2021.
We also loved One Lonely Outpost, which will arrive in 2022 and we cannot describe in any other way than «Stardew Valley in the space”.
Sable, which Shedworks and Raw Fury have been showing us since 2017, will be ready very soon and continues to fascinate us with its ‘eurocomic’ style.
Finally we have SkateBird. We already knew about it, but the gameplay trailer at E3 2021 of one of the most anticipated independent games revealed that we will be able to play it in August of this year.
This is just a small sample of the many indie games that have been shown to us throughout E3 2021. What is your favorite? We wait for your comments.
