Kratos is one of the most iconic characters in PlayStation history. His triumphant return on PS4 with ‘God of War’ represented quite a change of mythology for the character who moved from Greece to the Norse world. Now we know that Santa Monica Studios is preparing a new installment and according to David Jaffe this installment will come to PS4 and PS5.
Jaffe is sure that ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ will go on sale sometime in 2021 and it will be an intergenerational release for PlayStation consoles. Despite the importance of Jaffe, it is relevant to note that this is still speculation, since the creative has not worked on the Kratos saga since 2007, the year in which ‘God of War 2’ went on sale.
Kratos will return in full power
This Jaffe hypothesis makes sense if we consider that Sony plans to launch AAA titles for PS4 this year, among which ‘Horizon: Forbidden West’ stands out. So the arrival of ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ for PS4 would not be something unreasonable and would give support to users of PS4, a console that has the vast majority of users within PlayStation.
Sony confirmed that its exclusive releases will be intergenerational early in the life of the PS5, which will also be true of Microsoft with its next and next-gen Xbox consoles. At the moment neither Santa Monica Studios nor Sony have spoken about the launch pads of ‘God of War: Ragnarok’, but it is likely that they will speak at some point this nascent year.
The truth is that this would be great news for PS4 users who continue to enjoy their console while waiting to be able to give way to the new generation of consoles. Everyone is waiting for the return of Kratos and Atreus, of course, all but the Norse gods.
Seems like #GodOfWarRagnarok will be cross-gen title after all!
“I’m sure the next #GodofWar will be #PS4,#PS5. Of course it will” david jaffe says.
