It's been a decade since the new, skateboarding game hit the market, and a lot has changed in that time. The Skateboarding Franchise is one of 2000 & # 39; s most popular video games – many of us have fond memories of a Friday night in bed with a few jokes that pass the controller while playing EA's Skate or Tony Hawk & # 39; s Pro Skater original series .
Fans of the genre have been clamoring for a new Skate and the revival of the old franchise, but the question we've been asking at Easy Day Studios is – what does a skateboarding game built from the ground up to today look like? We have spent the last few years looking to answer that question, design and optimize Skater XL with Early Access, and now we are heading to the full version of the complete game 1.0.
The most important thing to understand about Skater XL is that it is designed to be as enjoyable as skateboarding is fun. The gameplay context is designed as a more focused and creative tool than the traditional video game with pre-emptive challenges.
The game is unique in that it has no tactics attached to it, it manages movement only through the thumbs up. Each thumb is connected to the corresponding foot – the right stick controls the right foot, the left stick controls the left foot.
This control system is compatible with all parts of the gameplay, making it easy to learn and rely on when developing new tactics and movements. See below where similar movements are made to the ropes with different gameplay modes. The front foot is pushed to the left and the back foot is pushed to the right, creating the same movement of the board in each case.
