Morteshka and Hypetrain have announced with a new trailer that Black Book will finally be released within three weeks. The card and exploration game was going to arrive in 2020 but the Russian developer had to delay its plans due to many circumstances. One of them was the pandemic, but they also admitted that the game lacked more work.
They have taken an extra eight months to give it the shape they wanted, Black Book is presented as a turn-based RPG in which we control an apprentice witch, Vasilisa. The protagonist rejects magic to have a normal life with her partner, but he is kidnapped and Vasilisa must use her magical gifts to save him.
Medieval black magic
Set in the Middle Ages and with many traits of Slavic folklore, Black Book attracted attention and Kickstarter when its creators asked for $ 30,000 to make the game. The project raised $ 165,000 and will therefore feature more content, a digital art book and the soundtrack as optional purchases.
In the trailer we can see that the fighting will be in open fields against demons and other creatures. The attacks are made with cards that carry out specific commands and that we find in a more or less random way. The composition of the deck of cards will determine our combat and defense capabilities.
Black Book will debut with its minimal art on August 10 on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. On this last platform, a prologue was released that is no longer available but that had very good reviews, so there are certain expectations placed on this game.
