The total sales figures for the PS5 certainly could have been higher. However, Sony’s latest console has experienced supply limitations caused by factors such as a shortage of various computer chips, including for the CPU and GPU. Demand continues to vastly outpace available supply, creating the PS5’s main reseller problem.
Earlier this month, the PS5 became the best-selling console in US history, both in terms of units sold and in dollars. According to Sony PlayStation Director Jim Ryan, the PS5 was also the most successful launch for a PlayStation console and the largest video game console launch of all time.
Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that combined sales of PS5 and PS4 games reached 61.4 million during the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2020 year.
The total number of PlayStation Plus subscribers was 47.6 million as of March 31, 2021.
This is up from 41.5 million at the same point last year.

This figure is lower than the 65.3 million software that was sold in the same period year over year. In addition, own games represent 7.9 million sales, with 79% complete digital downloads, compared to 68% reported during the same period last year. Obviously, the PS5 has only just entered the scene, and last year the PS4 was in a slightly stronger position than it is now, as gamers have started to transition to Sony’s new home console.
Sony also revealed that PS Plus members have reached 47.6 million worldwide, while the PS5 has moved 7.8 million units as of March 31, 2021. This is more than the 4.5 million. consoles that had been sold at the end of last year.
