Last year, Sony held an event known as PlayStation Player Celebration, in which his fans were rewarded for accumulating hours of play and trophies. Over the course of the event, players collected a host of fun digital gifts, including two unique PS4 themes and a host of exclusive avatars.
Fortunately for those who missed it last year, the event returns in a big way today, with PlayStation Player Celebration scheduled to offer three weeks of fun rewards. Players who want to participate in the event must register through the PlayStation website, which allows their account to be linked to the contest.
As for what to expect from the player’s celebration, the crux is simple. Each week it offers players a list of digital gifts that can only be unlocked if the community joins in, and Sony publishes the “Trophies Won” and “Games Played” meters that must be collectively filled. Each game played for one hour adds 1 notch to the Games Played meter, while each game played with friends for one hour adds two notches. Meanwhile, players can add a maximum of 6 unlocked trophies to the Trophy Earned meter every day. Each week, players will need to meet a goal for each gauge, and the community will need to complete both to unlock their rewards.

As for what these rewards will be, PlayStation has several themes and avatars to give away. If players manage to rack up 2.4 million games played and 7.2 million trophies earned this week, they get a PSN-themed avatar and a dynamic PS4 theme. They can also hit an ambiguous goal of 3 million games played and 8.8 million trophies earned to unlock three additional avatars, with the trio including Returnal’s Astro Bot and Selene Vassoss. Next week, players can earn even more avatars, including Sackboy, Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, Ellie from The Last of Us 2, and Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn.
Last week brings a new dynamic PS4 theme with a mix of Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon: Forbidden West, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and God of War, as well as another batch of avatars, including Kratos and Atreus. The first leg of the event kicks off tomorrow and wraps up on May 25, so eager players should make sure they’re signed up and ready to contribute when it goes live. They will definitely have some new games to spend time on when they rack up hours and trophies, including the recently released Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Resident Evil Village, which released earlier this month.
The PlayStation gamer celebration begins today, May 18.
