Roll the dice to survive in Random, a twisted kingdom from a Gothic fairy tale. In Random, everything depends on chance and only the brave will succeed by learning to turn the odds in their favor.
Even is a penniless girl whose sister Odd was kidnapped from her family home in Onecroft. To save Odd, Even has to travel through the 6 regions of Random. Even’s journey is all about understanding the opportunities and adapting to each unique circumstance she faces.
At the start of their journey, Even is alone and only equipped with a slingshot. The slingshot is great for breaking pots and collecting coins, but unfortunately it cannot harm enemies. A chance meeting with Dicey, a living cube, will allow her to fend for herself. By playing Dicey, Even will be able to fight enemies like the mechanical minions of Random’s Evil Queen.
Dicey is also not living his best life with sentient dice when Even hits him – he misses most of his pips and can only roll a 1 as she searches.
Fights in Random take place in arenas that look like giant game boards. Advancing and ending a fight usually means rolling dicey to advance the player piece on the board, the end goal often being to get the player piece to the end. Put the piece in last place and Even will be safe. But until you do … it won’t be.
Enemies will appear in the arena and try to take them out before she and Dicey can get the player character to the end of the board. Once again; Even’s slingshot cannot damage enemies. This is where your deck of cards comes in.
You collect five different types of cards to build Even’s deck: weapon, damage, defense, danger, and cheat. Weapon cards even equip themselves with weapons such as bows or swords, which, unlike their slingshot, can cause damage to opponents.
- Damage cards deal damage in other ways, e.g. By summoning dangerous creatures to rage around the arena, or by detonating Dicey (don’t worry, he’s fine). However, you can also be damaged by these cards so you need to be careful.
- Defense cards help you heal and protect, even with things like elixirs and shields. It’s good to have defense cards on hand when enemies approach or your health starts to deteriorate.
- Hazard cards allow you to add hazards to the arena, such as: B. Traps that injure, weaken or slow down enemies. For example, you can set up a cannon to attack enemies.
- Cheat cards improve the chances of winning with special effects that make it easier to play cards faster, to move the player figure further or to draw more cards from the deck into your hand.
Building Even’s deck of cards is an exercise in creativity and strategy.
As she travels through Random, Even gets stronger by collecting cards and reclaiming Dicey’s lost pips so she can roll higher numbers during the fight. Even must also collect Dicey’s lost pips to advance through the cities of Random, as access to the various cities (Onecroft, Two-Town, Threedom, Four-Town, Fivetropolis and Sixtopia) depends on their ability to increase the number of each city roll the dice .
Chance can seem like a chaotic place, and survival ultimately means accepting it. There are many options and you won’t always know what will happen next, but most of the time you know what could happen. You won’t know if you roll a 3, but you know what happens when you do.
