Four years ago, Apple introduced the cellphone with the same 4.7 ”features of the iPhone 6s (announced in September 2015) and was able to place it in a much smaller, 4-inch space with the iPhone 5s design.
The result was the iPhone SE: a compact iPhone that offers the same specs as the Apple Flagship at a much cheaper price. It was quite popular until the company dropped it in 2018 with the introduction of the iPhone XR.
Although it was the cheapest iPhone of its day, the iPhone XR (€ 859) was certainly cheaper. In recent years, much was expected that Apple would eventually do smartphone very cheap.
It is also here in the form of a second-generation iPhone SE (in line with the iPhone 8 build). Either iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9: IPhone SE. And by doing this, those of Copertino have taken the opportunity to give up the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

2. The Start Button remains
A lot has changed in the last four years and, unfortunately, this has also been shown in the new iPhone SE (which has less to do with the original SE). However, there are still points of similarity between the two Smartphones.
One of them is the presence of the first, most good news button since its disappearance with the iPhone X and the introduction of Apple ID. Currently, the iPhone SE is the only cell phone sold by Apple with this button.
After the company discontinues the iPhone 8, the iPhone SE (2020) is your only option if you want a smartphone Apple has a boot button and you choose to use the second-generation Touch ID to unlock your phone (not in the original SE).
3. Screen, size and design
When Apple released the iPhone SE in 2016, the biggest difference from other iPhones was its 4-inch screen. If they were hoping that it would come with the new iPhone SE, we're sorry to tell you that the panel is now 4.7 inches (like the iPhone 8).
In our opinion, it's best to see the exact side of this decision made by Apple. Sure, it can be expensive to keep you in a small pocket, but there are many benefits. You can see more details on the screen, more detailed pictures, diving games …
But where does this diversity change?
- IPhone SE (2020): 128.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm | 148 g
- IPhone SE (2016): 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm | 113 g
If you were a big fan of the original iPhone SE design, you'll be disappointed to learn that the new model is no longer available in the same colors. Instead of gray, silver, gold, and rose gold, it now comes in white, black and red (PRODUCT (RED)).
Of course, both terminals are made of the same materials: glass and aluminum. Apple, known for being one of the most progressive tech companies, doesn't use plastic in its products for long.
4. Premium features at a very good price
As we mentioned earlier, the 2016 iPhone SE had the same features as the iPhone 6s. Now, the 2020 iPhone SE has the same features as the iPhone 11, which, though not the current Flagship, also has some great features.
Many expected the new SE to be similar to the iPhone 8 in this regard, but it took the features from the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max (released in September 2019) to put themselves in the hands of much more mobile. .
Also, keep in mind that the iPhone SE costs a lot less than the iPhone 11. Putting its face-to-face specifications, we see that it's not that much different. For example, it has the same A13 Bionic chip with a third-generation Neural Engine.
This processor allows to improve the image quality as well as the unpleasant reality. Also, the fact that the new iPhone SE comes with the A13 Bionic means it has a better processor than the iPhone XR, which is also reasonably priced.
Right now, it doesn't make much sense to compare the specs of the two iPhone SE models. It makes sense that the iPhone SE of 2020 is better, as it has been four years since its inception.
In any case, it's worth remembering that the original SE came with an A9 chip and a built-in M9 copyright. It's the same processor as the iPhone 6s and there's no doubt that the 2020 iPhone SE is a big step forward.
The new iPhone SE (2020) also includes some of the latest gadgets that, for good reason, we didn't get on the first iPhone SE of 2016. These are some of the most prominent symptoms:
- Beacon is a small place
- Wireless charging
- Fast charging (up to 50% in 30 minutes)
- Water resistance of 1 meter for a depth of 30 minutes
Another major difference is storage. At launch, the original iPhone SE comes with 16GB or 64GB of space, though these have gone from 32GB to 128GB in 2017. The new SE comes with 64GB capacity, 128GB and 256GB capacity.
But all of this, with what result?
IPhone SE (2020)
- 64 GB: € 489
- 128 GB: € 539
- 256 GB: € 659
IPhone SE (2016)
- 16 GB: € 489
- 64 GB: € 549
5. Camera and battery
Despite the past four years, the iPhone SE's rear camera is still 12 MP. That doesn't mean the picture quality is the same, because new modes have been added and the wing, for example, is now at f / 1.8 instead of f / 2.2.
IPhone SE (2020) offers Portrait, Depth Control and Portrait Lighting mode, which means you can take pictures in action bokeh. Other new features are Flash True Tone with LEDs and slight synchronization, autofocus with Focus Pixels and stereo recordings.
The biggest change is available on the front camera, which you use to make your own selfies and make video calls via SpaceTime. For the new iPhone SE, we got a 7 MP lens (f / 2.2), while the original model was 1.2 MP (f / 2.4).
Finally, it is worth mentioning the battery independence. In both cases, Apple says it takes 13 hours to play the video. However, the new SE should last about 40 hours per audio, while the 2016 SE at its launch took about 50 hours.
Decision: iPhone SE (2020) or iPhone SE (2016)?
Not surprisingly, the 2020 iPhone SE will not have much impact on the 2016 model. After all, four years have passed and the technology industry (and the world as a whole) has changed dramatically.
But if anything hasn't changed, it's that the new iPhone SE continues to feature Apple's flagship mobile phone redesign and economics. And it will be popular as the first iPhone SE.
