Xiaomi has become one of the leading brands in Europe thanks to the great value for money of its mobiles. However, the company’s ambitions go far beyond selling mobile phones, and although it defines itself as an internet business, its smart devices have great value.
We have spent the last few weeks using Xiaomi’s smart heater, one of the products that most caught our attention in the company’s huge catalog and one of the most interesting for its smart features and performance. its devices. It’s worth it?
Xiaomi’s smart heater is ideal for cold winter
As a traditional heater, it is quite a good product. Its maximum consumption is 2200 W, even if it does not always consume this amount of energy, because it automatically regulates its consumption according to the cold of the room. When operating at maximum power, it takes a few minutes to heat the largest room in the house, and in this sense its maximum power is appreciated.
We have two vents, one large and one front.
And another at the back. Each of them has its own air flow, which circulates from the bottom without any type of fan, obtaining almost absolute silence in its operation.
We also have a tilting railing, which is a close but careful distance so that we can hang wet towels or clothes and dry them.
At the bottom we have two legs fixed by two screws each which ensure the stability of the radiator.
We appreciate a touch panel on the side, plus a physical switch to cut the power. The tactile buttons allow us to access the basic functionalities of the device. From top to bottom we have the following buttons:
- Turn the heating on or off: It turns off the heating but remains connected to power, allowing it to be activated again from the app or via smart home routines.
- Wireless: Enable or disable wireless connectivity.
- Temperature: Adjusts the temperature that the heater will attempt to reach and maintain in the room.
- We have for 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28 degrees.
- Timer: Set a timer to turn off automatically after 1, 3, or 5 hours.
All of these touch functions are found in the mobile app as well, although in the case of the touchscreen it is able to operate without having to use the app or having to be connected to the internet.
An application adapted to the latest features of Android and Google Home
In addition to being a heating device, the differential point brought by Xiaomi is to be another product of its home automation ecosystem. By downloading and installing the Mi Home app, we can control the heating and even block its touch panel so that children cannot change the settings.
The app control is very useful for, for example, starting to heat the living room when you are not yet at home (although with the speed with which it heats up, in the end we never turned it on. like that) but it is also useful to check if we let it turn it on and thus turn it off when we are not at home
My favorite part of the app is the automation possibilities it offers. Thanks to the fact that the heater itself has an environmental thermometer, we can create routines for it to automatically turn on when the room temperature drops below a certain number, among many other options.
The Xiaomi Home application is also adapted to the latest Android news, which can have direct access in the home automation menu of Android 11, as well as at Xiaomi with MIUI 12 mobiles.
In addition to these integrations, we have an integration with the Google Assistant, so you can ask your smart speaker to turn on the heating without even having to pick up your mobile.
Very large for heating large rooms or small houses
We loved the Xiaomi smart heater, but at the same time, it left us wanting more. This model is large and extremely powerful, which makes it ideal for large rooms, but it turns out too powerful for the bedroom, much more for the bathroom. It is able to perfectly heat a large living room, but also a small house.
We really love how fast it heats up, how quiet it is, and the fact that it doesn’t dry out the environment.
Due to the convenience of the integration between Mi Home and the Google Assistant, we would like to have cheaper versions but with a smaller size and wattage to maintain an optimal temperature in rooms that are too small.
