Crytek's lawsuit against Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has been resolved.
Both companies have previously discussed the possibility of dismissing the suit, but failed to reach an agreement. But now, it seems that an agreement has been reached.
Details of the settlement have not been disclosed, but according to Gamasutra, the two parties jointly filed to dismiss the case "within 30 days of the settlement agreement."
Back in January, Crytek wanted to withdraw the lawsuit against Cloud Imperium until Star Citizen's derivative squadron 42 was released. Later that month, Cloud Imperium countered Crytek over its motion to dismiss its own lawsuit, saying that the company "will no longer inevitably consider its claims to be and have always been unfounded."
Crytek filed a lawsuit against Star Citizen developers back in 2017 for violating the copyright of Crytek's CryEngine to Amazon's Lumberyard engine and violating the contract. The lawsuit also brought the 42nd Squadron, as Crytek claimed that CryEngine's original license agreement was only for Star Citizen, not a second separate game. Cloud Imperium Games said at the time that it had switched its Squadron 42 from CryEngine to Amazon's Lumberyard engine.
The Squadron 42 was originally scheduled for release in 2016, but was postponed due to tentative 2017 release targets. Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium now plans to release a beta version in the second half of 2020.
