On the same day as the start of series production on Netflix, the developer studio of the so successful role-playing games was finally able to confirm that a legal dispute with the author of the underlying books could finally be settled. Not only that: they also agreed with Andrzej Sapkowski to extend the collaboration.
In short: The source material of the Witcher books has now been licensed by CD Projekt RED for a longer time as part of a new deal, so that the basis has now been created that the studio can develop further games within the series in the future. The corresponding license agreement also extends not only to new video games, but also to book implementations, board games and merchandise.
"We have always valued Andrzej Sapkowski's work – it is great inspiration for the team here at CD Projekt RED," said a statement from Adam Kicinski, the president and CEO of the developer studio. "I believe that today marks a new stage in our further cooperation."
For the moment, CD Projekt is known to be focusing on completing the sci-fi role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 scheduled for April 2020. After that, however, the way is now clear for a The Witcher 4.
