Someone reportedly hacked into the PC and stole the source code of AMD Big Navi and Arden GPUs, the latter being said to be the Xbox Series X GPUs, and now they hope that the full source code is not rele ased for $ 100 million.
Strings of the source code have been posted to four different repositories on GitHub, and AMD takes the threat seriously to issue DMCA removal notices-and adhere to GitHub.
According to Torrent Freak (via IGN) who spoke with a so-called hacker, as early as November, the source code "was accidentally obtained through certain vulnerabilities through an unprotected computer / server".
The officer told Torrent Freak that the unencrypted software package includes code for Navi 10 and Navi 21 devices and source code for the Xbox Series X GPU Arden.
Since then, AMD has issued a statement about the violation:
At AMD, data security and intellectual property protection are top priorities. In December 2019, someone who claimed to have test files related to a subset of our current and future graphics products contacted us, some of which were recently posted online, but have since been deleted.
Although we know that the perpetrators have other documents that have not been made public, we do not believe that the stolen graphic IP is the core of the competitiveness or security of our graphic products. We do not know that the perpetrator has any other AMD IP.
As part of the ongoing criminal investigation, we are working closely with law enforcement and other experts.
