Commercial Courts of Barcelona issue two sentences that block sites for the illegal distribution of Nintendo Switch products – iGamesNews

Good news from Nintendo. The company has recently issued a message related to the protection of the video game industry.

According to what was shared, Barcelona Commercial Courts have issued two favorable rulings to protect the video game industry, the first of which sets a precedent in continental Europe that extends blocking measures to websites that distribute circumvention devices and software. On the other hand, the second ruling orders Internet access providers in Europe to block access to two major international websites that make pirated copies of Nintendo Switch video games available.

This is what Nintendo says about the first sentence:

In the first ruling, the Mercantile Court number 2 of Barcelona ordered the six main Spanish broadband and mobile internet providers, Telefónica, Telefónica Móviles, Orange, Vodafone, Vodafone ONO and Xfera Móvil, to block their customers’ access to Europe to three websites that distribute circumvention devices and software for Nintendo Switch that allow users to play pirated games: www.team-xecuter.com, https://sx.xecuter.com and https: // team-xecuter .rocks. These websites are popular destinations for users around the world to purchase circumvention devices and download associated software, which is then used to play pirated copies of Nintendo Switch games.

This is the first ruling of its kind in continental Europe to include blocking of websites that sell and distribute circumvention devices and software, and follows the UK High Court decision in late 2019 that ordered the top five providers of the United Kingdom to block their subscribers’ access to the same websites.

Regarding the second failure, Nintendo adds the following:

In a different ruling, the Commercial Court number 6 of Barcelona ordered the same Internet access providers to block the access of their clients in Europe to two websites that make unauthorized copies of Nintendo Switch games available: www. switch-xci.com and www.nxbrew.com. These websites are popular with users around the world to find and download pirated copies of Nintendo Switch video games, including the latest releases.

Each of the websites blocked in both procedures causes significant economic and reputational damage to all those developers and publishers of video games for Nintendo Switch consoles. Nintendo initiates these actions not only on its own behalf, but also on behalf of the more than 2,000 video game developers who depend on legitimate Nintendo Switch video game sales for their livelihood. Nintendo promotes and encourages development and creativity, and strongly supports developers who legitimately create new and innovative software.

Along with this, Nintendo reminds us that the company advises its consumers “not to download pirated copies of video games, as this increases the risk of interfering with the functionality and experience offered by playing legitimate games on an authentic Nintendo Switch console. . For example, downloading and playing pirated copies of games can lead to the execution of insecure code on the user’s console, putting the user at risk.
