At the end of February, the Annual Developers Conference – scheduled for this month, in March – was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak. A statement on the GDC website said the program will hold an annual event next summer.
It's all set and in place for the original conference is a new three-day summer event, taking place between 4th – 6th August, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Here is the full rain:
The GDC Summer conference program will feature high-quality content, mixed with key brief summaries to promote discussion and communication.
The event will feature a new series of blogging and lively discussions, as well as a dedicated space for comprehensive skills development sessions covering topics such as how to set up your game, effective communication strategies, how to hit an investor / publisher and business development strategies.
As a celebration of the game development industry, GDC Summer 2020 will launch a new program of community engagement. Organizations will have the opportunity to apply for a place to hold meetings and gather around the main event. Eligible organizations can include SIG meetings, nonprofit board meetings, venue meetings, "office" staffing, community review rooms, podcast recordings and more.
This system allows GDC as an organization to access areas that were not covered due to geographical restrictions. In the meantime, sponsorship packages are designed to be easy to do, with a shorter route than the shorter average compared to other industrial events.
The GDC summer will give the game development community an opportunity to come together in a way that would not have been possible because of COVID-19. Security remains a concern of GDC organizers and the GDC team will continue to monitor the latest information from health officials to ensure a safe and compelling event for everyone at GDC Summer, GDC 2021 and beyond.
