Square Enix has updated its website to list the changes Legends of Mana Remaster will have when it releases in June. The game was seen for the first time in the Nintendo Direct a couple of days ago, but the truth is that it will also reach other platforms with all the improvements that were clarified today.

The first thing is that we pass the image aspect ratio 4: 3 to 16: 9, the saga welcomes the TVs more rectangular than square and with this there will be more space on the screen to better locate the interface and menus. In addition, there is an obvious resolution change, an issue that will bring controversy since many prefer the “old school” look with the blurred image.

On the left is what the game will look like when it is released and on the right what it looked like 22 years ago. The plants are what most notice the change, but both were drawn by hand and digitized in their respective moments.

Square Enix provided more examples to compare:

Legends of Mana (1999)

Legends of Mana (2021)

Legends of Mana (2021)

It is clear that despite being a remaster Square Enix has not wanted to ruin the original artistic direction, although clearly there will be many opinions about it. The same will happen with menus, dialogs and more, they look much sharper now, including the art of the characters in the selection of equipment.

Various improvements

In addition, now we can turn enemy encounters “off”, the game does not have an option to “escape from the battle”, so it does offer the option of eliminating them directly so that exploration is less tedious. Of course, not fighting never leaves you defenseless for mandatory combat.

The original soundtrack also receives changes since now we can choose the original or a current arrangement. Most Square Enix remasters offer this option, and it is one of the least critical since there are options for all tastes.

Another addition is the Music Mode and the Gallery Mode. As their names indicate, these let you listen to the entire soundtrack and see the original and new art of each character and location. Although you have to pass the game to fully enjoy them. There will also be an automatic save mode and the option to save the game anywhere.

Lastly, Square Enix reveals that the Rin Rin Land minigame will let us get hard-to-get items in the traditional way, although no further details were revealed about it.

Legends of Mana is coming to PS4, Switch, and PC on June 24.
